Anglo-Indian and Oriental Cookery. London: W.H. Allen, circa 1893.
An Anglo-Indian cookbook, primarily combining traditional English and Indian ingredients and techniques.
The Anglo Indian and Oriental Cookery book was written by award winning cooking expert Grace Johnson in the end of the 19th century. (1893). It was her endeavor to create awareness in England and expand the English conception of Eastern Cuisine. She wanted English kitchens to discover that Asian food consisted of more than just “Currie and Rice” and was, in fact, an enormously diverse and exciting cuisine with great refinement This work, however, has been adapted to accommodate the limited availability of Asian—particularly Indian—ingredients in England during Johnson’s lifetime, as well as the limitations of the contemporary European palate.
Grace Johnson has authored several cookbooks like FAST DAY COOKERY, MEALS WITHOUT MEAT, but her most famous one is The Anglo Indian And Oriental Cookery Book. Please refer to the PDF below.
