There is a massive demand for food on the internet and not
everyone is sugar conscious. There are many with a sweet tooth who just love
the word cake. But cake today means so much more than layers of sponge with
icing or cream between. It has become an art promoted by bakers who can be
considered artists when it comes to baking a cake. Artists like Ben Cullen 28
who is a multi-award-winning cake artist known as the Bakeking and has won Gold
awards at Cake International in 2015 and 2016.
Cullen is a regular contributor on the TV show "Extreme Cakemakers" run by
Channel 4. His cakes can be called illusions instead and you need to see these
with your own eyes.
#1. It isn’t a glass of water, it’s a cake
Cullen has an impressive YouTube channel and is a rage on
social media for his crazy baking skills where he creates cake illusions so
real you need a second look. This is not a glass of water, its really a
chocolate layer cake.
#2. Potato cakes?
There are only a select few bakers who end up becoming the
crème de la crème and stand atop of the food chain. Cullen’s cakes are stunning
and he bakes up a range of cakes where some look like they came from a fast
food diner, some look like edible clothes while others are a take on some of
his favorite themes.

Some of his cakes appear as if they could start moving any
moment while others look like life sized busts, themes from horror movies,
vegetables and optical illusions. It seems he can create anything with just
ingredients for cake.
#5 Weird and so artistic, they mess with your brain
Edward Cullen’s cakes literally mess with your brain. Some
look weird on the outside but gorgeous and mouth-watering on in the inside.
Some look so delicious and tempting that you wouldn’t even care what they taste
like. This is a nice platter.

Enough to mess around any sweet tooth
#8
Edward Cullen could give anybody a sugar rush just watching
his artistic cake creations and illusions. By the end of this post, you’re
definitely going to want to have some cake, after all if these stunning cake
illusions don’t stimulate appetite or that sweet tooth, then what will?
#9. You could learn how to make spooky cakes like this one

On his blog, Cullen also holds tutorials and videos
explaining how he did it. Obviously, it does look abit complex and one would
definitely prefer watching such a beautiful cake rather than attempt to learn
how to bake it and create a mess.
He switched from tattooing to baking
Cullen was first a tattoo artist; in an interviewer he says
he loved it till a customer showed him some fondant figurines and it tempted
him to have a go at it. Once he tried it, he was hooked and it changed his
direction.
#11. A cake roast
#12. A slice of pizza
Now this is as real as they get. There is now way anyone
could even guess that’s not a cake. People commenting on his social media where
he post’s his cakes are totally floored because without seeing the cake cut in
half, it’s hard to believe that’s a cake.

He draws inspiration from the works of Bansky, Roy
Lichenstein, and the concept at Madame Tussaud's. He says “When it comes to
other sugar artists, it would have to be Natalie Sideserf of Sideserf Cake
Studio in Austin, Texas. And I always love the work of Karen Keaney of Roses
and Bows Cakery.”

#20 His advice? Just do it!
His best advice for people wanting to bake and become cake
artists is “Just do it! Don’t worry about what others are doing and don’t
compare yourself to the people at the top. Just set your sights higher with
each cake you make and focus on bettering your work. And if there’s something
you don’t know, just ask people in the community. There are a lot of amazing
cake artists who actively love to help and build up other cake artists, so the
support is definitely out there!”
