All About The Little Mizoram Boy Who Ran Over A Chicken and Took It to Hospital With Whatever Money He Had

There can be nothing more innocent than a child. But while we strive to cultivate values in our children, they often assume their own little perspectives whose simplicity can reflect the harsh impact our present society has on them.  In most cases, children are synonymous with honesty and it is fear of their own moral consequences that make them sorry for the mistakes they do.

The best example of such innocence which will make you laugh and cry is of a little boy from India.  Living in a town called Sairang in the North-eastern state of Mizoram, the little guy accidentally ran over a chicken while riding his bike. Filled with remorse, he actually took it to a nearby hospital with whatever pocket money he had.

A photograph that screams the age of innocence

It was there that he was spontaneously clicked by a Facebook user and shared on his page Sanga Says. The post went viral with over 100K likes and 76K shares. The photograph speaks a thousand words where the expression of the boy holding the money and the dead chicken says it all.

There is also a harsh truth in this picture

While many were amused, some praised the body for his honesty, responsibility and care towards birds and animals, one comment summed up the present harshness of the situation. A commenter on Sanga’s post wrote

‘I am shocked that a child of such a young age is of the impression he has to give money before help will be given. It says a lot about the society he lives in”

Well?? That is the harsh truth of society today.

Who is the little boy?

According to the Newsmill, a north-eastern news portal, the little boy is six years old Derek. C. Lalchchanhima from Sairang Mizoram. While at the hospital, he was photographed holding the chicken that he accidentally ran over on his cycle and a ten Rupee note approximately 0.15 $ US.

The boy’s father Dhiraj Chettri said that little Derek had come home with the neighbour's chick which he had accidentally killed. However, he did not believe the bird was not alive and in spite of his parents explaining so, he was adamant on them taking it to the hospital. His father then told him to go himself. Derek did just that taking his own pocket money with him.

Later he returned home sobbing saying that they never really did anything except take his picture holding the chick and the money. He promised to return with 100 rupees the next time. Little did he realize that he became a viral sensation in India. His parents finally explained that the chick was dead and there was nothing they could do. Dhiraj works for the state police and is posted in Sairang, Mizoram, India. His mother Lalnunpuii was surprised and proud of his actions while his father commented that “he’s always been a rather unique kid.’
