Did you know that the entire Soccer team of England is going to donate their World Cup match fees to charity? Well, that is one of the most honorable things to do but it isn’t something new really. The English team has been doing so for quite a good many years now ever since the tradition started with David Beckham establishing the charity by the player’s committee in 2007.

When bad gestures and dismal performances on the field are reported on every possible media, then gestures like this should also be highlighted too.

Kylian Mbappe the French forward will also be donating his fees of 17,000 pounds to a children’s charity and the English team  have been doing the same. Gary Neville and Gary Lineker have pointed out that the England squad have been doing so for years.

The 19-year-old Mbappe has invited a lot of praise from all quarters. He feels that a player shouldn't be paid to represent his country. He will be donating his fees to the Premiers de Cordees association, a charity that involves sports activities for children with disabilities.

After having set up the England Footballers’ Foundation (EFF), the English players have been donating their wages to a charity set up by former Captain David Beckham in 2007. The charity included players like John Terry and Gary Neville and was established so that international players could donate their match fees to worthy and needy causes.

Some of the recipients have been UNICEF, Cancer Research UK, Help for Heroes and The Honeypot Children’s Charity, as well as the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research. The EFF has been working with several charities and has raised 5 million pounds over 11 years.

“England’s players do not retain their earnings

FA chief Martin Glen was quoted as saying that England’s players do not retain their earnings when playing for their country. Now that is a noble thing to do. In an interview to the Express, he said ‘I get absolutely indignant about the suggestion that players when they play for England, don’t really care because it’s not anything like my experience. They don’t take a penny in match fees, they give it to charity.”

In 2013, When David Beckham signed a five-month deal with Paris St Germain, he played for free and donated his earnings to a children’s charity in Paris. His salary was almost 1 million pounds. The Guardian reported David Beckham saying “We’ve decided on something that’s quite unique. I won’t receive any salary: we’ve decided my salary will go towards a local children’s charity in Paris and that’s one of the things we’re very excited and proud to do.

It’s something I’m not sure has been done before but I’m passionate about children and the charity, so we came together and it’s something special.”

As for the World cup 2018, English hearts are undoubtedly delighted and so are mine to see England in good form. The team beat a nasty Colombian side in a game that not many Colombian fans would be proud of. England got the better of Colombia in a tiebreaker where due credit goes to Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for his incredible save to set up Eric Diers winning penalty.

Pickford goes down in history as the only other English goalie along with David Seaman to save a penalty in the world cup. England now plays Sweden in the Quarterfinals. All the best!!
